There are two types of gain that affect your tone. Preamp gain which is what we asociate
with modern high gain tones and power amp gain which is what we relate to that classic rock tone when preamps were just not as strong as they are today. Laney know that there is a lot more you can do with these different tones so they made the GHR amp. This lets you craft the tone you want straight out of the box from crystal cleans to high gain destruction. Two Channels
Channel 1 responds like your typical classic British style amplifier. Bringing up the drive contol
you can go from a really crystal clean through to a decent amount of crunch and overdrive. Honestly for a lot of blues and rock players this one channel will deliver all of the tones you will ever need. Channel 2 on the other hand picks up from the overdrive of channel and gets you closer to
the modern high gain sound we have loved in some of Laney's other amps. The big thing here is that you have control of both the preamp and poweramp gain here. The gain control sets the amount of preamp gain while the volume really pushes the poweramp in to another world of overdrive. Don't worry about the volume of cranking the power amp as you actually have a master output control that sets the volume in the room. 2x12 Combo
There are few speakers that would be able to produce the versatile range of tones required by
this amplifier. After loads of testing the best option showed and it is the legendary Celestion Vintage 30! Set up with a pair of these incredibel speakers this amp is ceratainly gig ready straight out of the box. 50w Of Power
With 50w of power you can fill out most decent sized venues without much issue thanks to the
pair of TAD EL34 valves in the power amp. Combine that with the four 12AX7 preamp tubes to handle all of your gain needs this is a serious tone machine that is made for the gigging guitarist. XLR DI with Speaker Emulation
So this is something that you don't see all the time on 50w heads. The idea here is that you can
run the amplifier live on stage with a DI out to the front of house using the inbuilt speaker simulation. Not only does this look cleaner on stage but you don't even need to worry about knocking the mic around. Here's what Laney say about the GH50R
GHR is the product of Laney's long-term study of how guitar players interact with tube amps.
"Tube tone" is composed with what we have come to describe as "RED" and "BLACK" tone elements: RED is tube preamp distortion, in which ECC83 tubes add drive. BLACK is output tube distortion which increases as the power tubes are driven harder. GHR allows the player to balance RED and BLACK elements to seek the sweet spot in each player's setup. The 3 band tone stack is shared between channels giving a simple yet effective tone palette. A Pull
Shift function also increases the tonal flexibility of the mid-range. STUDIO QUALITY DIGITAL REVERB
Studio-quality digital reverb gives rich ambience to the sound via a rotary control. A Pull Focus function
